Our Story
In the early part of the 20th century, ice was in great demand for home and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning purposes. Two brothers, Walter and Oliver Hipp, and Walter's father-in-law Joseph Frey, recognized this growing market for ice and decided to start an ice manufacturing business in Norwalk, Ohio. On July 19, 1917, the Maple City Ice Company was incorporated.
In 1933, Congress passed the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, repealing Prohibition. After this event, the owners of the Maple City Ice Company decided to begin distributing beverages, including beer.
Ever since then, the Maple City Ice Company has distributed beer and other beverages to Northeast and North-Central Ohio. Today, Maple City Ice distributes Anheuser-Busch and InBev beers, as well as many other bevergaes to stores, restaurants, bars and tourist destinations in Ohio.
